GRAZE DAYS
An Urban Grasslands Restoration Project in the Railyard Park
The Railyard Park Conservancy and Quivira Coalition, in partnership with the City of Santa Fe and Horned Locust Goatscaping, present Graze Days, an ongoing restoration project in the Railyard Park. With the use of grazing sheep and goats – in conjunction with reseeding, composting, invasive species removal, and reduced mowing practices – the project aims to strengthen ecological function in the park’s 2.5 acres of native grasslands, while educating the community on the many benefits of prescribed grazing in urban landscapes. Hoof action, grazing and the recycling of manure nutrients drastically improve soil health in an organic and sustainable way, ensuring that the park’s drought tolerant landscaping remains a vibrant community oasis.
