Parallax by Mark Knutson
Mark Knutson’s Parallax was installed on the corner of Guadalupe and Cerrillos Rd. Similar to the rail lines of a rail road track that fade into the horizon, the sculpture forms a parallax that vertically disappears in the blue skies above. The pieces come apart and fragment just like the changing grid lines that direct the path of the train at a busy intersection.
The rusty steel on the outer edges of the segmented I-beams is reminiscent of the old rail lines sitting out in the landscape and the colors, yellow and green, recall the cautionary colors of the train signal lights.
