Parallax

By Mark Knutson

Similar to the lines of a railroad track that fade into the horizon, Mark Knutson’s sculpture formed a parallax that vertically disappeared in the blue skies above. The pieces came apart and fragmented, just like the changing grid lines that direct the path of the train at a busy intersection. The rusty steel on the outer edges of the segmented I-beams was reminiscent of the old rail lines sitting out in the landscape, while the yellow and green recalled the cautionary colors of train signal lights.
