SHADOW LIGHT LENS
Don Redman’s temporary installation Shadow Light Lens was a monumental sculptural diptych in the Railyard Park. The two marine-grade stainless steel sculptures represents the artist’s exploration of creating kinetic responses through an object with no moving parts. As sunlight penetrated the surfaces, the light created an array of two-dimensional shadows. The pieces, paired, measured: H. 15′ x W. 30′ x D. 30′.
During Don’s 40 plus year career, he has produced monumental sculptures for public, corporate, and private collections throughout the world. According to the artist, “I create sculptures to serve as a powerful connection to and symbol of the spirit of community. I love to explore the laws of nature, to see how they interact, and invite them to come through each piece in new and inventive ways.” Don uses materials that produce large-scale impressions and are capable of creating an impact that is greater than the sum of its parts. In 2014, he was the recipient of the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts from the New Mexico Arts Commission.
